District 2 today: three wards, and where we survey trees
Ho Chi Minh City replaced its districts with wards, the local unit of government, on 1 July 2025. Under Resolution 1685/NQ-UBTVQH15 the old District 2 became An Khanh, Binh Trung and Cat Lai wards, with the former An Phu ward divided between the first two. People still say District 2, and so can you.
Our office is at 72 Nguyen Co Thach in Sala, in An Khanh ward, and tree work is taken regularly in all three wards. Calls and messages are answered from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, seven days a week, and the survey date is confirmed when you contact us.
- An Khanh ward
- Thao Dien, Thu Thiem, Sala and part of An Phu: the large gardens with mature trees along Nguyen Van Huong and Quoc Huong, Thao Dien's gated compounds, the Saroma villas and the SariTown townhouses.
- Binh Trung ward
- The rest of An Phu and the old Binh Trung wards: the terraced houses and semi-detached villas of Lakeview City, the townhouses and villas of Palm City, the SOHO townhouses of The Global City.
- Cat Lai ward
- The old Thanh My Loi and Cat Lai wards along the river, with streets of townhouses and garden homes.
Thao Dien and An Phu gardens before the storm season
The typical Thao Dien home is a garden villa: lawn, mature trees, a pergola, timber decking round the pool, a boundary fence and a terrace open towards the river. Its compounds are often full of large trees too, and in An Phu townhouses and villas usually have a yard or a strip of garden.
The rainy season runs from May to November, according to the city government portal. Large trees should be looked over before it starts, while dead and weak branches are easy to see and the ground is not yet saturated. Thao Dien has one more reason to be early: Tuoi Tre (June 2025) describes Quoc Huong, Nguyen Van Huong and Thao Dien streets as low-lying with old drainage, where heavy rain on a high tide can leave 0.15–0.3 m of water standing for one to two hours. Send us a photo if you see:
- Branches reaching the roof, a window or the wall, or hiding a light or a security camera.
- A crown so dense that the lawn beneath no longer gets sun.
- Dead or broken branches lodged in a tall tree, above a path or the parking space.
- A leaning trunk, a crack, decay or fungus at the base.
Thinning, reduction, single branches or felling: what the tree needs
A tree that is in the way rarely has to come down. Thinning or reducing the crown often settles the matter and keeps the shade. Felling is the last resort: for a tree that is dead, hollow with decay or leaning dangerously, or where a renovation needs the ground cleared.
Every cut wounds the tree. Your Up specialist, a member of UpClean's identity-verified and trained staff, asks first what you want from the work and proposes no more cutting than that needs. For an ornamental tree of high artistic value we ask for photos from every side before accepting.
- Crown thinning
- Some branches inside the crown come out; height and outline stay. For a healthy tree grown too dense, so that light reaches the grass and the crown catches less wind.
- Crown reduction
- Branches that reach too high or too far are shortened back to suitable side branches. For a tree that has outgrown its garden.
- Single branches
- Only the branches touching a roof, gutter, window or wall, or blocking a light or camera, are dealt with.
- Felling
- Sawn in sections from the top down, each piece lowered on a rope where houses, cars or fences stand nearby. A whole trunk is dropped only where the open space is wide and safe enough.
Whose tree is it? Street trees, Sala's shared greenery and power lines
A tree on the pavement, on a road divider, in a park or on other public land is an urban tree: felling it, moving it or pruning it heavily requires permission from the competent authority and is done by the organisation assigned to manage it. UpClean works only on trees inside the client's property. If the tree in front of your gate is dangerous, we can help you prepare photos and a description for a request to the local authority.
Sala has a great deal of greenery and a park of its own, and its roadside and park trees are not any one household's, even where a crown hangs over your fence. A tree in the garden of a Saroma villa or a home in Lakeview City or Palm City is yours to decide on. Where there is a management office, though, felling usually needs its agreement as well, and so does felling a tree in the shared grounds. UpClean is independent of developers and management offices, so please ask yours.
Near power lines we do not cut branches that touch the cables or lie close to them. We explain how to contact the electricity company, which switches the power off or deals with the branches inside the line's safety corridor; the rest is done once the site is safe.
From the compound gate to a swept garden: how the work is done
The work is normally not done on the day of the survey: the quote and the safety plan come first, then a date that suits the equipment and your compound's working hours.
- Survey: height, trunk diameter, lean, dead wood and decay; whether the tree stands on your land; clearance to power lines, roofs and walls; the route for carrying timber out.
- At the gate: in Thao Dien's guarded compounds you give security the specialists' names and photos, sent beforehand, and the team follows the guards' directions on parking, the way in and outdoor water and power.
- On site: the area below is cordoned off; roofs, glass and garden furniture are covered. The specialists work from a stable ladder with safety lines, helmet, goggles and gloves, lowering each section on a rope while one person on the ground keeps everyone clear.
- Afterwards: branches are collected, the trunk is cut into lengths and the garden is swept. The stump is normally cut close to the ground, and digging it out is proposed only after roots, pipes and wall footings have been considered. You receive an Up Report, our written record of the job, with before-and-after photos.
- Where we stop: a tree that is too tall, a spot with nowhere safe to stand a ladder, or a job needing a specialised lifting platform is declared plainly at the survey.
What decides the price of tree work in District 2
There is no price per tree. Trimming a few low branches in the middle of a wide lawn and taking down, piece by piece, a tall tree beside a terrace roof and a pool differ too much in labour and risk. The survey is free and the all-inclusive price follows in writing. For a low, accessible tree, photos of the whole tree, its base and its surroundings are enough for a first estimate.
- Scope and debris handling are fixed in the quote and change only with your written agreement. Payment follows the walk-through, by bank transfer or cash; a larger job may need a deposit, which the quote states.
- Height and size
- Height, trunk diameter and crown spread decide the equipment, the number of people and the time.
- Position and access
- Open ground, against the house, a narrow lane or a townhouse roof terrace; the route out to the gate counts too.
- What lies below
- Near cables, a glass roof, a pool or parked cars, the tree comes down in sections on ropes, which takes longer.
- How much is cut
- Light pruning, reduction or felling, with or without work on the stump.
- Green waste
- The volume to cut up and take away, and whether you keep the wood.
- Working hours
- The hours your compound or building allows, in one session or several.
International residents: English, rented villas and how to book
Tuoi Tre reported nearly 6,000 foreign residents of 102 nationalities in Thao Dien in 2020, and many of its villas are rented.
- Language
- The enquiry, the written plan, the quote and the Up Report can be in English. For an English-speaking specialist on site, add a note when you book; where we cannot arrange one we tell you in advance and support you by phone or message.
- Tenants and landlords
- In a rented villa, tell us who approves the plan, the owner or the tenant. The final walk-through can be done with someone you authorise, or by video call.
- Booking
- Message 0968 726 135 on WhatsApp or Zalo with photos of the tree and the name of your compound or street. We arrange the free survey, send the plan and the price, and set the date once you have checked your compound's working hours.
