Phu My Hung: the former District 7, now two wards
This page covers the Phu My Hung urban area, 433 hectares in the south of Ho Chi Minh City around Nguyen Van Linh, Nguyen Luong Bang and Ton Dat Tien streets. It belonged to District 7 until 1 July 2025, when Resolution 1685/NQ-UBTVQH15 ended the districts and left the city divided into wards, the units that now handle local administration. Land once in Tan Phu and Tan Phong wards is now in Tan My and Tan Hung.
Phu My Hung is on our regular tree-work schedule; calls and messages are answered between 7:00 AM and 8:00 PM every day.
- My Kim, My Thai and Nam Vien
- The urban area's villa neighbourhoods. Trees in a front or back garden belong to the house.
- Around Crescent Lake
- Garden villas and townhouses between apartment towers: inside the fence the trees are yours, outside they are the estate's.
- Shophouses on the three main streets
- Ground floors are often showrooms, shops or offices, so the cutting day follows opening hours.
- Apartment estates and office buildings
- Trees in shared grounds are taken on only when the management agrees.
Parks, estate gardens and private yards: which trees are yours to decide on
Phu My Hung gives a great deal of its land to planting. Nguoi Do Thi magazine (2023) puts the urban area's building density below 30%, with about 8.9 m² of greenery per resident. According to the developer and press reports, Happy Valley has a building density of nearly 23%, Scenic Valley has a flower garden, The Peak at Midtown stands beside the cherry-blossom Sakura Park, and Nam Vien is presented as the green core. A survey here therefore opens with one question: which side of the boundary is the tree on?
| Where the tree stands | Who decides, and whether we take it |
|---|---|
| A villa or townhouse garden | The owner decides. For felling, a place with a management office usually expects its agreement too, so ask yours first. |
| Shared grounds of an apartment estate | Common property: accepted with the management's approval, within the building's working hours. |
| A park, the pavement or a road divider | An urban tree. To fell, move or heavily prune it takes permission from the competent authority, and the job belongs to the organisation that manages the tree. We do not take it, but can help you prepare photos for the local authority. |
| Beside a power line | We do not cut branches touching or next to the cable. They need the electricity company, which cuts the power or handles what lies in the line's safety corridor; we do the rest once it is safe. |
A house lived in for ten or fifteen years: thin, reduce or fell?
Phu My Hung was built in stages, so houses occupied for more than fifteen years stand near buildings handed over a few years ago. In an older home, a tree that has outgrown its plot raises one of the problems below. The Up specialist, a trained member of UpClean's identity-verified staff, recommends no more cutting than your aim needs: cutting too hard, or cutting a trunk off short, can weaken a tree.
- Branches on the roof, leaves in the gutters
- Only branches touching the roof, gutters, windows, a light or a camera are removed.
- A dense crown and a dark, damp yard
- Crown thinning removes some inner branches. The shape stays, light reaches the lawn and the crown catches less wind.
- A tree taller than the house
- Crown reduction brings long, high branches back to suitable side branches.
- A dead, hollow or dangerously leaning tree
- Felling, a section at a time from the top. It is the final option; thinning or reduction often keeps the shade.
- All of District 7
- Our District 7 page also covers Tan Thuan and Phu Thuan.
Low southern ground and the rainy season
According to Nguoi Do Thi (2023), the south of the city was marshland more than thirty years ago and is still low and exposed to high tides; Phu My Hung floods rarely because of its planning, tide gates included. The rainy season lasts from May to November, the city government portal says. Check large trees before the first storms, when dead and weak branches are easy to see and the ground has not yet filled with water, and look again after any heavy thunderstorm for cracked or hanging branches.
Guards, management offices and weekends: how the day is arranged
Cutting is seldom done on the survey day: the quote and safety plan come first, and the date depends on the equipment and on working hours where you live. For a villa with a guard or caretaker we send the specialists' names and photos ahead. In an apartment tower outside staff usually have to be registered and keep to permitted hours, and some buildings restrict construction-type work on Saturdays and Sundays. UpClean is not affiliated with any developer or management company, so please ask about the rules early.
- On site the area is cordoned off. Anyone working at height has a stable ladder, safety lines, a helmet, goggles and gloves; branches come down on ropes, directed by a person below.
- We say no at the survey if a tree is too tall, no ladder can stand safely, or a specialised lifting platform would be needed.
- Sky Garden's penthouses often have a roof terrace or wide balcony. A large tree there is its own access case: the route out, the service lift and the hours are checked with the management before we quote.
Why there is no price list, and what the quote covers
We publish no rates for tree work, because effort and risk can differ enormously between two trees. Take two jobs in one villa street: trimming a few low ornamental trees by the drive, and taking down in sections a tree that has grown above the roof beside the parking space. The first can sometimes be estimated from photos; the second cannot. The survey is free, and the written all-inclusive quote, covering each tree, the stump and the green waste, changes only with your written consent.
- Build of the tree: a thick trunk, great height or a wide crown means more people, more equipment and more hours.
- The way to the tree: an open yard, the house wall, a townhouse back yard or a roof terrace, and the route the wood takes out.
- Obstacles close by: a power line, a glass roof, a pool or parked cars mean slower lowering on ropes.
- Scope: light pruning, reduction or felling, and how far the stump is dealt with.
- Green waste, and any timber you keep.
- Permitted hours: the estate's or building's working rules, weekend limits included.
Afterwards, and for international households: stump, timber, English and booking
After felling we normally cut the stump level with the ground. Only after looking at what is buried alongside (paving, pipes, the wall footing) does the specialist propose digging it out. Our termite page for Phu My Hung also advises keeping planters clear of the house wall and roots away from the foundations, worth bearing in mind when you replant.
- Keeping the wood
- Say beforehand which wood you want; it is cut to a handy size and stacked where you choose. You receive an Up Report, our photo record of the job.
- In English
- Phu My Hung is a multicultural area, with the Taipei School, the Japanese School, the Canadian International School and the Korean International School inside it. The plan, the quote and the Up Report are available in English. For an English speaker at the house, ask when you book; if that is not possible you are told in advance and helped by phone or message.
- Payment and booking
- Payment follows the walk-through, our final check with you, in person or by video call. To book, send photos of the tree and the name of your estate to 0968 726 135 on WhatsApp or Zalo, and say who approves the plan, owner or tenant.
