Garden maintenance in District 7 — villa gardens and building grounds in Phu My Hung

Ho Chi Minh City has had wards in place of districts since 1 July 2025. Resolution 1685/NQ-UBTVQH15 turned the old District 7 into four wards: Tan Thuan, Phu Thuan, Tan My and Tan Hung. Phu My Hung, a planned urban area of 433 hectares designed for about 100,000 residents, lies in the last two.

Phu My Hung was planned with building density below 30% and about 8.9 m² of greenery per resident, according to Nguoi Do Thi magazine (2023). Homes therefore tend to have rows of trees, flower beds and pergolas around them, and dry leaves blow onto terraces and into drains. The area has also been settled for many years. In an older garden, hedges lose their shape, shade trees thicken until they block lights and cameras, and grass under the canopy thins.

The same article notes that the south of the city was marshland three decades ago and is still low ground affected by high tides; Phu My Hung was planned to flood less, with tidal valves. The rainy season lasts from May to November, says the city government portal, so the schedule changes with the season.

Rainy season

Grass grows quickly and is usually cut more often. Low spots waterlog, and fertiliser is not spread just before heavy rain.

Dry season

Mowing is spaced out and watering matters more, so the grass does not scorch; existing sprinklers and lines are checked.

Before the storm season

Dead branches, and branches close to the roof or power lines, are reviewed. Pruning large trees is a separate service.

Owners usually care about three things: thoroughness, privacy and a household left undisturbed. The specialist arrives in the time slot you chose, screens the terrace before the mower starts, and sets pots and garden chairs back in position afterwards.

Townhouses with a front or back yard

A small area with a lot of handwork: lawn edges against walls, planters, pots. Where the yard gets little sun the grass is usually thin, and shade-tolerant ground cover or decorative gravel deserves a look before patching the lawn yet again.

Penthouse terraces and wide balconies

Sky Garden's penthouses often come with a roof terrace or a wide balcony; Happy Valley has duplexes and penthouses. Pots and planters there are pruned, fed and checked for irrigation as the survey sets out, and we ask beforehand about the building's rules on registration, the service lift and working hours.

A natural lawn wears out sooner than any other part of a garden in this city. The usual causes are water standing after rain, too little sun under large trees, compacted soil, mowing too low, a shortcut worn across the grass, or too little water in the dry season. Within a maintenance schedule the specialist identifies the cause first; patching alone means the new grass dies in the same spot.

The dead patch is then raked out, the topsoil improved and the area replanted with the variety already in the lawn, so the colour matches. In full sun, a sun-loving grass needs even watering through the dry months and mowing at a suitable height.

Pruning before storms, drainage, lawn care and watering while you are away.

There is no price list and no mowing price per square metre, because two properties of equal size can differ greatly: the flat lawn of an apartment building, or a villa garden full of beds and stone steps with a fish pond. The survey is free, and a small yard can be estimated from photos. The written all-inclusive quote states the tasks, the frequency and the price per visit or per month, and nothing in it changes without your written approval.

• Lawn: area, grass type, and whether it is one stretch for a machine or many small patches cut by hand.
• Trees: number and height. Trees that need ladders and safety lines are a different job from low shrubs, and work at height is usually quoted separately.
• Starting condition: a garden left untended, in a home empty between two leases for example, needs a restoration visit before regular care begins.
• Ponds: size, fish or no fish, the filter system and the cleaning level agreed.
• Frequency and materials: visits per month, and who supplies fertiliser, growing medium and turf for patching.
• Green waste: how much, and whether we remove it or it goes to the estate's collection point.

Phu My Hung was planned with homes among offices, schools and shopping centres. For the grounds of a building, an estate or a company we take regular contracts: weekly and monthly task lists, a photo report after each round, VAT invoices, and work scheduled for quiet hours behind temporary signs.

• Koi ponds: leaves skimmed, algae brushed, pump baskets and filter chambers cleaned, mostly with the fish in place. Fish are moved only if the water must be lowered a long way, on terms the pond owner decides. We make no commitment on water readings or fish health and do not repair pumps or underwater lights.
• Weeds are pulled by hand where possible. A plant-protection product is used only if legally permitted, at the stated dose, after telling you when and for how long to keep clear, and never near a fish pond.
• Trees on the pavement or public land belong to the competent authority, and branches near power lines are dealt with together with the electricity company.
• Work at height needs a stable ladder, safety lines and protective equipment; an unsafe position is reported, not attempted.
• We give no general assurance that plants will survive; anything promised about plants is written into the quote or contract.

Guards and building management

Many villa and townhouse estates in District 7 log who comes in, and many apartment buildings ask residents to register outside staff first. We send the specialist's name and photo in advance. At a house, please show us where to park, which tap and socket to use and where tools may be kept.

If the family is away

The garden can still be looked after when someone opens the gate or access has been handed over as agreed. The Up Report reaches you by WhatsApp or Zalo after each visit.
