Mosquito control in Thao Dien — garden villas, compounds and riverside homes

Thao Dien was a ward of District 2 until 1 July 2025, when the city replaced districts with wards, its local administrative units. Resolution 1685/NQ-UBTVQH15 moved the whole of Thao Dien into An Khanh ward, alongside Thu Thiem, An Loi Dong and part of An Phu. Papers issued before that date stay valid, so an address reading "Thao Dien ward, District 2" is fine.

Our office at 72 Nguyen Co Thach, in Sala, sits in An Khanh ward too. Mosquito surveys in Thao Dien are part of our regular schedule, 07:00 to 20:00 daily; spraying is usually moved if it rains or the wind is strong.

On Nguyen Van Huong and Quoc Huong: large gardens, mature trees, verandas facing the river, many with a pool.

Compound houses and townhouses

Apartments

Xi Riverview Palace, Thao Dien Pearl and Tropic Garden stand beside the river; Masteri Thao Dien, Gateway Thao Dien, The Nassim, The Ascent and Lumiere Riverside lie further in.

Adult mosquitoes need shade to rest in by day and standing water to breed in, and a Thao Dien villa garden has both: tall trees, low shrubs and shaded veranda corners, with pots, water features and ornaments that fill with rain. By the Saigon River, more fly in from beyond the boundary.

The ground makes it worse. In June 2025 Tuoi Tre newspaper reported that three streets, Quoc Huong, Nguyen Van Huong and Thao Dien, lie in a dip served by old drains; a downpour that coincides with a high tide can leave 0.15–0.3 m of water, which takes one to two hours to drain. Book a survey:

• At the start of the rainy season, around May, and again mid-season.
• When mosquitoes thicken around the veranda and play area at dawn and dusk.
• Ahead of a garden party: book early, so that the re-entry time (how long everyone stays out of a treated area) is over by the day.
• When a rented villa stands empty between tenancies, or the family is due back after a long absence.

Villa with garden and pool

Saucers under pots, unused pots, tree hollows, tarpaulins and outdoor toys; jars, urns and fountains left switched off; a pool out of use, or a pool cover holding rainwater.

Low ground by the river

Drain pits, blocked channels, the garage and the basement are checked again each time water has stood. Because mosquitoes also arrive from outside, one treatment lowers numbers only for a time.

Inside a compound

The team registers at the gate and follows the guards on parking, routes and use of outdoor water and electricity.

Townhouses

Roof terrace, balconies, aircon drip trays and water tanks with a loose lid. A high roof or an upper gutter with no walkway or guard rail is noted for a separate survey.

Cafes and showrooms in converted villas

Sprayed in quiet hours; the re-entry time in the plan tells you when to reopen.

Three apartment developments stand beside the Saigon River: Xi Riverview Palace, Thao Dien Pearl and Tropic Garden. Gateway Thao Dien includes garden villas and sky villas with terraces, and The Nassim has penthouses with a private pool.

In any tower, a low floor near the river or greenery, or a balcony full of pots, can mean mosquitoes. Check the places below before thinking of spraying. If the home is dry and they persist, we survey, and deal with building management where required.

Balcony and loggia

The saucers under the pots, the aircon drip tray and the floor drain; a loggia with a washing machine stays damp.

Doors and insect screens

Whether the screens on windows and balcony doors are intact, and any gap where aircon pipes pass through the wall.

Private terraces and roof decks

Pots and water features are surveyed like a small garden; a little-used pool and its cover get a close look.

Shared areas

Planting and pools in the common areas belong to building management. Report standing water there to them; we treat only inside your own home.

Our technicians choose the method once they know the grounds, the mosquito activity and whether the household has young children, pets or a fish pond. Only products on Vietnam's permitted list, with a valid registration number, are used, at the label dose; the product, the spray area and the re-entry time are in the plan you receive beforehand.

On dengue, the Ministry of Health and the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City say the disease is carried by the striped Aedes mosquito, which lays its eggs in fairly clean water standing in containers near the house; getting rid of larvae matters most. A spray visit thins out adult mosquitoes for a time. It is no substitute for the health authorities' own measures, and a high fever calls for a medical facility.

Space spraying

A fine mist that quickly lowers adult numbers; short-lived, so used before an outdoor event or when numbers are very high.

Resting-site treatment

Undersides of leaves, low shrubs, shaded veranda corners, under outdoor stairs; longer-lasting, and marked out to avoid play areas and vegetables.

Water that cannot be removed

Drain pits and ponds are decided case by case; nothing is applied directly to a pond with fish.
