Mosquito control in Binh Thanh — Thanh Da, Ba Chieu, Thanh My Tay

The former Binh Thanh district has been redrawn twice: to 15 wards from 1 January 2025, then to five from 1 July 2025, when the city replaced districts with wards, its local administrative units, under Resolution 1685/NQ-UBTVQH15. The new names mislead: Binh Thanh ward now covers only the old wards 12, 14 and 26, while riverside towers such as Vinhomes Central Park and Landmark 81 have a Thanh My Tay address. Write yours as you know it and we match it. Surveys are taken from 07:00 to 20:00 every day.

Binh Quoi ward

The Thanh Da – Binh Quoi peninsula, enclosed by river and creeks, with garden houses among waterside resorts. Grounds are heavily planted and close to the water, so checking for standing water takes longest here.

Thanh My Tay ward (regular schedule)

Riverside towers along Nguyen Huu Canh and Dien Bien Phu, among them Vinhomes Central Park, Landmark 81, Saigon Pearl and City Garden. Surveys concentrate on balconies, loggias and low-floor apartments.

Gia Dinh ward

Long-established townhouses round the Lang Ong Ba Chieu mausoleum and Ba Chieu market, where we look at roof terraces, gutters and front porches.

Binh Loi Trung ward

The north of the former district: crowded neighbourhoods of narrow townhouses standing wall to wall along the lanes.

The former district has a long frontage on the Saigon River and is crossed by the Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe canal (Wikipedia). On the Thanh Da – Binh Quoi peninsula, water lies on every side and the houses stand among gardens. Adult mosquitoes spend the day in dense foliage and shady corners and lay their eggs in standing water inside the property.

High tides make a dry yard harder to keep. Tuoi Tre (October 2025) reported that the tide at the end of that month came over the embankment in Binh Quoi, entered more than 50 homes and left one lane about a metre deep in water. When the water goes down, buckets, empty plant pots, tarpaulins and toys left outside may still hold some, and are easily overlooked after a tiring clean-up.

Mosquitoes also fly in from beyond the property, so by the river one spraying works for a limited time; keeping the result means removing standing water regularly as well. Where it collects:

• Garden houses in Thanh Da and Binh Quoi: low shrubs, tree hollows, leaf sheaths, coconut shells, ornamental jars, bowls of water plants.
• Older townhouses round Ba Chieu and in Binh Loi Trung's lanes: gutters choked with leaves, puddles on the roof terrace, a water tank with an ill-fitting lid.

Houses beside the embankment or a creek

We look at the backyard, the side passage and anything that catches water when the tide rises. Spraying avoids rain, strong wind and days when a high tide is forecast.

Townhouses round Ba Chieu and in Binh Loi Trung

With no large garden, we look at the roof terrace, the pots by the front door, the water tank and the gutters. High roofs without safe access are noted for a separate survey.

There is no published rate for mosquito spraying yet: an apartment that needs only its balcony checked and a Thanh Da garden house with several layers of planting are very different jobs. We inspect at no charge, then send a written all-inclusive quote with the method, the area to be sprayed, the repeat schedule, any warranty conditions and the re-entry time. It changes only if you agree in writing, and depends on:

• The size of the grounds, and the floors, verandas and roof terraces to be treated.
• The density of planting; the number of ponds, gullies and water features.
• Riverside, creekside or in the streets: fewer mosquitoes all through the rainy season usually means repeat visits.
• The method and the number of repeat sprayings.
• How much clearing, covering and wiping down falls to your Up specialist.

Every safety instruction comes from our technicians and is written into the plan. The household's part is short:

• At the survey, tell us if anyone at home is elderly, very young or has a respiratory condition, and if the garden has a fish pond, pet birds, dogs, cats or a beehive.
• During outdoor spraying, close the windows and doors facing the garden and bring in laundry, toys and pets' food bowls.
• The household water tank, the fish pond and water-plant bowls are covered as instructed; a pond with fish in it is not treated directly.
• Garden vegetables and fruit are picked again only after the interval you are given.
• The family and pets return to the yard only when the re-entry time in the plan is over. Your Up specialist tells you, and wipes the swings, garden furniture and play area.

In English

Enquiries, quotes, booking confirmations and the Up Report can all be in English. For an English speaker at the house, add a note when you book; if we cannot arrange one, we tell you in advance and support you by phone or message.

Registering the visit

Many apartment buildings ask residents to register outside staff with building management beforehand. We send your Up specialist's name and photo, with our technicians' details, for you to pass on.

If you are away

Nobody needs to stay in. A key can be left with building management, reception or family: only the assigned specialist handles it, the times are recorded and it is never copied. We recommend a temporary code for a smart lock; the walk-through can be by video call.

Payment

After the walk-through, by bank transfer or cash; a larger job may need a deposit, stated in the quote. Invoices are issued on request under Vietnamese regulations, for individuals and companies.

Vietnam's Ministry of Health and the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City identify the striped Aedes mosquito as the carrier of dengue. It lays its eggs in fairly clean water standing in containers round the home and usually bites by day, mostly in the early morning and at dusk, so the health authorities put killing larvae and clearing standing water first. Home spraying does not replace their disease-control measures, and anyone with a high fever should be seen at a medical facility, not treated at home.

The rainy season usually runs from about May to November. Each week:

• After a high tide or heavy rain, walk the yard: turn buckets over, empty plant saucers, shake out tarpaulins.
• Keep jars and water tanks covered; change the water in vases and water-plant bowls often.
• Clear leaves from gutters and drains, check the aircon drip tray, and keep the loggia floor drain clear.
• Sleep under a net, by day too, and co-operate when the local authorities spray at an outbreak site.
• Do not climb to standing water on a high roof; send us a photo instead.

• Call or message 0968 726 135 on WhatsApp or Zalo. Say when the mosquitoes are worst and send photos of the garden or balcony with your address; for an apartment add the tower, floor and the building's working hours.
• The plan and all-inclusive quote follow the free survey in writing, and you fix a date only after considering them. Before a garden party, book early, so that the re-entry time has passed by the day.
• On the day your Up specialist clears standing water and puts covers in place, then our technicians spray. In rain or strong wind the spraying is usually moved.
• Your Up Report shows where we sprayed, which pockets of standing water were cleared and which points to keep watching.
• Moving or cancelling is free with at least 24 hours' notice; after that the fee is 30%.
