Three wards, by appointment: arranging a mosquito survey in District 5
Since 1 July 2025 the former District 5 has been the territory of three wards, Cho Quan, An Dong and Cho Lon, under Resolution 1685/NQ-UBTVQH15. Four old wards had already been absorbed by neighbours on 1 January 2025, so bills and house books may show old numbers; the house number and street are enough.
Surveys run in all three wards, 07:00 to 20:00. Please call early: the time is confirmed when you book, once our technicians are scheduled and we know your shop hours and where a vehicle can stop outside.
- Cho Lon ward
- The old Wards 11 to 14, an area shaped by the Chinese community: traditional medicine shops on Hai Thuong Lan Ong, many assembly halls, townhouse rows in older styles.
- An Dong ward
- The old Wards 5, 7 and 9, named after An Dong Market; homes that are also shops sit between commercial buildings.
- Cho Quan ward
- The old Wards 1, 2 and 4, with Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Saigon University; townhouses along the main roads beside long-standing apartment blocks.
Deep, wall-to-wall and short of sun: where mosquitoes live in a Cho Lon townhouse
The usual home here is a narrow, deep townhouse of several floors: shop or stock below, living, worship and rest above. Houses stand wall to wall, the middle of each has almost no side windows, and sun and air arrive only through the front and the light well. Adult mosquitoes rest by day in dark, damp places: under the stairs, behind curtains, under beds, in wardrobes, between cartons in the storeroom.
They breed in standing water, which here tends to sit out of sight indoors, on the roof terrace and at the street front, above all in the rainy season, about May to November. Mosquitoes also fly in from outside, so one spraying helps only for a while; results last longer with regular clearing of standing water.
- Mosquitoes in the shop or ground-floor living room at dawn and towards evening.
- Larvae in flower vases, bowls of water plants, or buckets in the bathroom or on the roof terrace.
From the roof terrace down to the shop: the standing-water check
Your Up specialist does this with you before spraying, from the top down. Anything within safe reach is emptied or turned over at once; points on a high roof or the street front are photographed for your Up Report, the photo report sent after the visit.
- Roof terrace
- Pots and saucers, loosely lidded water tanks, leaf-blocked gutters, puddles. The specialist does not step onto weak corrugated roofing; points there are only recorded.
- Light well
- Where it is open, pots, buckets and basins at its foot are emptied and turned over, and the drain at the bottom is checked.
- Living floors and altar room
- Vases on the altar and tables, bowls of water plants, the fridge drip tray, bathroom buckets. Nothing on the altar is touched without your permission.
- Street front
- Aircon drip trays and condensate pipes, and sagging awnings or canvas over the shop.
- Ground floor and storeroom
- Unused buckets and bins in corners and the wash area; dark gaps behind stock are marked as possible resting places for the technicians to assess.
Who sprays, and who does everything else
UpClean does the work itself, so you deal with one point of contact. UpClean has declared its eligibility to provide pest-control services as required by regulation; the declaration and product information are available on request.
- After seeing the house, UpClean's own technicians choose the method: space spraying to bring adult numbers down quickly, or treating the places where mosquitoes rest so that the effect lasts longer.
- Products are on the permitted list, hold a valid registration number in Vietnam and are used as their label directs; the plan sent before the visit names the product.
- Your Up specialist removes water containers, covers stock, altar items and fish tanks in the treated area, keeps spraying within it and tells family and staff how long to stay away.
- After the re-entry time, counters and furniture are wiped as the technicians direct and everything goes back in place; a specialist more than 15 minutes late means 10% off that visit.
How mosquito control in District 5 is priced
No figure is published: a ground-floor shop and a whole townhouse with a light well and roof terrace are very different jobs. After the free survey you receive an all-inclusive written quote with the method, sprayed area, repeat schedule and re-entry time (how long people and pets keep out of a treated area), changed only with your written agreement. It depends on:
- Floors, depth and the areas to treat: shop, storeroom, light well, porch, roof terrace.
- Pots, drain pits, water features and any water that cannot be emptied.
- The method and the number of repeat sprayings in the rainy season.
- The stock and altar items to cover, and the clearing and cleaning your Up specialist does.
Shops, clinics and assembly halls: spraying around trade and worship
District 5 also has many shopfronts, clinics, offices and eateries, and a great many Chinese community temples and assembly halls:
- Traditional medicine and dried-goods shops
- Herbs and dried food go into sealed containers or another room beforehand, as the technicians instruct; remaining counters and shelves are covered and photographed.
- Clinics, offices, eateries
- Spraying can fall outside customer hours, and you are told beforehand how long to keep clear.
- Assembly halls, shrines, pagodas
- Whether and where to spray is the technicians' call at the survey. If it goes ahead, statues, couplet boards and offerings are covered, festival and full-moon days are avoided, and decorative jars are checked for water.
- Flats in older blocks
- Standing water on shared stairs or yards is for the management or residents' group; we photograph it for your Up Report so that you can pass it on.
Dengue, and getting the household ready
According to the Ministry of Health and the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City, dengue is carried by the Aedes mosquito, which lays its eggs in fairly clean water in containers around the home and bites by day, most of all early morning and late afternoon. The health sector's message, “no larvae, no dengue”, puts removing breeding sites first. Spraying lowers adult numbers for a while but does not replace public-health measures, and anyone with a high fever should be seen at a medical facility.
- At the survey, mention young children, older people, anyone with a breathing condition, pets, caged birds or a fish tank.
- Cover fish tanks and water tanks as the technicians direct; bring in roof-terrace washing, toys and pet bowls.
- Family, staff and pets return only after the re-entry time in the plan.
