District 5 today: three wards, surveys by appointment
Since 1 July 2025 Ho Chi Minh City has used wards, its local administrative units, instead of districts; under Resolution 1685/NQ-UBTVQH15 the former District 5 became Cho Quan, An Dong and Cho Lon wards. An earlier merger of numbered wards means deeds, invoices and shop signs may still show an old ward number. A house number and street name are enough for us.
Surveys can be booked in all three wards, 07:00 to 20:00 daily. District 5 is served by appointment: the slot is confirmed when you book, planned around your opening hours and delivery times.
- Cho Lon ward
- Formerly wards 11 to 14: the old assembly halls, the traditional Chinese medicine shops of Hai Thuong Lan Ong street and older townhouses that trade from the ground floor.
- An Dong ward
- Formerly wards 5, 7 and 9, and named after An Dong market: houses with a business downstairs, next to commercial buildings.
- Cho Quan ward
- Formerly wards 1, 2 and 4: townhouses on the main roads and long-standing apartment blocks around the Hospital for Tropical Diseases and several old schools.
Narrow, deep houses sharing walls: where pests shelter
The typical District 5 home is a tube house: narrow, deep, several storeys high and sharing side walls with its neighbours, with the shop or store below and living rooms, altar and bedrooms above. Light enters only from the street and the light well, leaving the middle of the house, storeroom corners and the space under the stairs dark and undisturbed.
The survey therefore looks past the insects on the counter to the species, its spread, its shelter and its routes, checking the party wall and service shaft on the same visit.
- Cockroaches
- Dark pellet-like droppings in drawers, behind the fridge and under the sink, with a stale smell; active at night around the kitchen and drains.
- Rats and mice
- Droppings, gnawed cable and packaging, night-time noises in the ceiling; dry-goods stores and cartons stacked against the wall need a close look.
- Ants
- Trails along wall bases and door sills towards anything sweet; the nest hides in a wall crack, under tiles or in a plant pot.
- Woodworm
- Small round holes and fine powder in altar cabinets, wooden doors, plank mezzanines and staircases in older Cho Lon houses.
- Mosquitoes and bed bugs
- Mosquitoes gather where water stands in plant saucers, gutters and roof-terrace pots; bed bugs leave brown specks on mattress edges and sheets in upstairs bedrooms, and bites in a row.
- Termites
- Covered soil trails along the wall base and door frames, and timber that sounds hollow. See our termite control page.

Scheduled visits for restaurants, dry-goods and herbal medicine shops
Where a kitchen cooks every day, or stock sits in a storeroom for long periods as it does on the medicine, dry-goods and fabric streets, one treatment after pests appear holds only for a while. A scheduled programme finds activity early and needs less chemical.
- Our technicians propose how often to visit a restaurant, café, office or home-and-shop townhouse.
- Signs are noted separately for shop floor, storeroom, kitchen and mezzanine, and bait stations or traps are added as needed.
- Herbal medicines and dried food are sealed or moved out beforehand, as the technicians direct.
- An Up Report, our photo record of each round, lets the owner track the trend. Warehouses and factories are surveyed separately.
Who decides the method, and who does the work
UpClean's own technicians handle every step involving a pest-control product, following the label and the regulations, and choose the method for each floor by species and extent, in writing for your approval. Your Up specialist, the UpClean staff member assigned to you, surveys, schedules, covers the shop and rooms, stays throughout, cleans up and sends the Up Report. You deal with one company from start to finish.
- Bait and bait stations
- For cockroaches, ants, rodents and termites: little smell, no break in trading, and the bait reaches the colony as it forages. It is slower, and stations must stay where they are put.
- Residual spraying
- A lasting layer along wall bases, cabinet undersides and door gaps. Stock and food are covered first, and everyone keeps out until the stated re-entry time.
- Traps and sealing
- Sticky traps, rodent traps, closing gaps and clearing standing water, used alongside the other two to cut the chemical needed.
What pest control costs in District 5
There is no published price, because the cost follows the plan proposed after the free survey. The written all-inclusive quote states the method, the re-entry time (how long a treated area stays empty), the follow-up inspections and the warranty terms, and changes only with your written agreement. It depends on:
- The pest and its spread: the kitchen only or several floors, one species or a few.
- One visit for a current problem, or a scheduled programme.
- The premises: how many floors, and any storeroom, stock mezzanine or roof terrace; or an apartment or business unit.
- Whether the work happens during trading hours or after closing.
- How much stock must be covered, and the cleaning afterwards.
- The warranty and inspections written into your quote; no single period suits every property.
Preparing for treatment day, and afterwards
A written note before the appointment lists the areas and how long to keep away. Many streets here are busy from early morning, with set delivery hours and little room to stop, and some older blocks want notice through the management board or residents' group, so we send your Up specialist's name and photo and our technicians' details early.
- Tell us when the shop is quiet and where a vehicle can stop nearby.
- Shut food, crockery and pans in cupboards; cover the rice bin, water containers and open sacks of dry goods.
- Clear the wall bases, behind cabinets, under the sink and under the stairs.
- The altar, counters and shelves are covered and photographed first; tell us what must not be touched.
- Children, pregnant women, older people, staff and pets stay out of treated areas for the re-entry time, and fish tanks are covered.
- Mention asthma, allergies or respiratory illness at the survey, and warn next door if a shared wall is treated.
- Afterwards, ventilate as instructed and leave sprayed points and bait stations alone. Between inspections, fix leaks, keep food covered, store stock on racks clear of the wall and empty standing water weekly. If pests return, send a photo instead of spraying.
How to book a survey in District 5
- Send photos or a video of the signs to 0968 726 135 on WhatsApp or Zalo, with the street address and whether it is a home, shop or restaurant.
- We book the free survey, ideally at a quiet hour, then send the written plan and all-inclusive price; the date is fixed only when you agree.
- If we arrive more than 15 minutes late, that visit's invoice is reduced by 10%. Moving or cancelling is free with at least 24 hours' notice; later cancellations carry a 30% fee.
